So you’ve had a successful hunt and you’ve decided to get your trophy mounted. First off, Congratulations! I hope that you choose Animal Tracks Taxidermy to preserve your trophy. Whether you do or you choose to go to another taxidermist, most of the information here will help ensure that your trophy arrives in the best condition possible. This in turn will allow me to bring your trophy “back to life” and return it to you to display in your home and relive those special memories for many years to come!
Things to consider:
How are you going to mount your trophy?
Shoulder mount
Half life-size
Life-size
Pedestal
European
Antler Mount
Rug
For each type of mount there are some things you may want to consider.
~ For all game animals ~
As soon as any animal dies, bacteria begins to grow. Bacteria is the enemy and can cause hair to slip
Take special care when bringing your trophy out of the woods; try not to drag the animals head area (for deer) as this can cause hair to fall out.
Field dress your trophy (DO NOT field dress birds, small game, and fish) ASAP after harvest and get it cooled to slow the growth of bacteria.
If you are able to bring it to me within 24 hours, DO NOT FREEZE! I can cape out your trophy as soon as you bring it to me saving on freezer space and not having the risk of slippage while it thaws out.
If you do have to freeze your trophy, I suggest double-bagging it and freezing it.
